PP Health Malaysia (PPHM) Launches CHIME to Address Health Misinformation and Strengthen Preventive Care

Key Insights

PP Health Malaysia (PPHM) has announced the establishment of the PPHM Centre for Health Intelligence & Media Evidence (CHIME), a dedicated research arm created to respond to the growing challenge of health misinformation and to strengthen public understanding of health information.

The launch comes at a time when Malaysians are exposed to an increasing volume of health content across digital platforms, social media, and traditional media. While access to information has expanded, much of the content circulating is inaccurate, misleading, or taken out of context. CHIME aims to address this gap by studying health literacy and how people access, interpret, and act on health information, while developing evidence‑based approaches that support informed health decisions.

As part of PP Health Malaysia, CHIME will collaborate closely with healthcare professionals, academicians, researchers, technologists, and subject‑matter experts. Its role is to translate complex medical and scientific knowledge into clear, accessible, and reliable information, without compromising scientific accuracy.

The Centre will also develop innovative, AI‑driven tools and advanced technologies to support preventive healthcare, holistic health solutions, and improved population health outcomes. These initiatives are designed to enable earlier intervention, better self‑management, and more personalised health guidance for individuals and communities.

A key focus of CHIME’s work will be strengthening health literacy and the dissemination of credible, evidence‑based health news and information. Through research, media monitoring, and data analysis, the Centre seeks to improve the quality of health reporting and build greater public trust in health communication.

“Today, Malaysians are not short of health information, but they are short of reliable and accurate guidance rooted in evidence and science, not hearsay or rhetoric. Health information is messy and often nuanced. It is rarely clear, bold, or straightforward. Highly simplified health news misleads and causes unnecessary alarm, while overly complicated information discourages people from reading. Finding the sweet spot is hard, especially in a multicultural and multiracial nation. CHIME was created to close that gap through research, evidence, collaboration, and responsible communication,” said PPHM Editor-in-Chief, Tony Y.

PP Health Malaysia stated that the establishment of CHIME reflects its commitment to responsible, research‑led public health initiatives. By integrating research, technology, and multidisciplinary expertise into its operations, the organisation intends for CHIME to become a trusted reference point for health intelligence and health communication.

“Through CHIME, PP Health Malaysia is strengthening its commitment to research‑led, responsible health communication. We aim to support healthier communities by ensuring that accurate, evidence‑based health information is accessible to all.”, Tony Y added.

With the launch of CHIME, PP Health Malaysia positions itself as a strong contributor to evidence‑based health communication, digital health literacy, and health innovation in Southeast Asia and elsewhere, supporting healthier communities through accurate information, research, and advanced technology.

PP Health Malaysia welcomes collaboration with healthcare professionals, academicians, researchers, technologists, media organisations, policymakers, and industry partners who share a commitment to strengthening health literacy, evidence‑based communication, and preventive healthcare.
