Icon Oncology Expands Specialist Cancer Care Services in Klang Valley

Key Insights ▼

Icon Oncology Malaysia is expanding access to specialist cancer care across the Klang Valley, supported by a multidisciplinary team of clinical oncologists and new patient-focused initiatives.

The expanded services build on the provider’s existing presence in the region, which includes centres at LifeCare Diagnostic Medical Centre in Bangsar South and Avisena Specialist Hospital 2 in Shah Alam, as well as its centre at Island Hospital in Penang.

The Klang Valley service will be delivered by clinical oncologists Dr Arnil George Sirimanne, Dr Lee Hong Moi and Dr Nurul Iman Fathi.

Dr Arnil’s experience covers solid cancers, with a focus on advanced radiotherapy and multidisciplinary supportive care. Dr Lee specialises in advanced radiation oncology techniques, cancer research and clinical trials, while Dr Iman focuses on breast, gynaecological, liver, and head and neck cancers, as well as advanced radiotherapy and systemic therapies.

Icon Oncology has also added Prof Dato’ Dr Fuad Ismail to its team. He has more than 30 years of experience in oncology and previously served as Professor and Head of the Department of Radiotherapy and Oncology at Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia Medical Centre.

During his career, Prof Dato’ Dr Fuad has helped train generations of oncologists and contributed to the development of cancer treatment protocols, clinical practice guidelines and national cancer initiatives in Malaysia and the wider region.

“I’m looking forward to being part of a team that looks beyond treatment and considers the whole patient journey,” Prof Dato’ Dr Fuad said.

“Icon Oncology’s commitment to evidence-based care, access to the latest treatments and support for each patient’s individual needs reflects the comprehensive approach to cancer care that is so important. By working together across disciplines, we have an opportunity to support patients through every stage of their experience to continue delivering the best care possible to people across Malaysia.”

Icon Oncology is also introducing the Icon Oncology Women’s Cancer Program, which is designed to support women with different types of cancer throughout their treatment and recovery.

The programme addresses issues that may arise during and after treatment, including fertility, genetic testing, menopause, body image, hair loss, nerve-related side effects, emotional wellbeing and life after cancer.

Icon Oncology ASEAN CEO Serena Wee said the programme recognised that cancer could affect women in different ways and that their concerns might extend beyond treatment of the disease.

“Cancer does not affect every patient in the same way, and women may have concerns that extend beyond the treatment of the disease itself,” Wee said.

“By recognising these concerns, we hope to give women greater confidence and reassurance as they navigate the different stages of their cancer care experience.”

Icon Oncology will also become the first cancer care provider in Klang Valley to offer HILOTHERAPY® ChemoCare, a supportive-care system designed to help manage some chemotherapy side effects.

The system provides targeted cooling for the scalp, hands and feet during chemotherapy. Scalp cooling is intended to help reduce chemotherapy-induced hair loss, while cooling of the hands and feet is intended to help prevent chemotherapy-induced peripheral neuropathy and hand-foot syndrome.

Icon Oncology said the initiative would provide patients with additional support in managing the potential physical effects of chemotherapy.

The expansion is part of Icon Oncology’s wider efforts to strengthen cancer care in the region through a combination of clinical expertise, specialised programmes and supportive services.

Sunsuria Berhad Executive Chairman Tan Sri Datuk Ter Leong Yap said the initiative brought together experienced clinicians, specialised services and new approaches to cancer care.

“Healthcare is ultimately about people, and we are pleased to be part of an initiative that brings together experienced clinicians, specialised services and new approaches to cancer care,” he said.

“As we continue to develop our healthcare offering, we hope to reach more people in the community and make a meaningful difference to patients and their families.”
