ParkCity Medical Centre held its Mind & Body Reset 2026 community health event at Pusat Komuniti Taman Menjalara, Kepong, with 150 people attending.
The programme included health education sessions, preventive screenings and activities related to physical and mental well-being. Screenings available to attendees covered hearing, vision, general health, foot arch, posture and child development.
The event began with a welcome address by Ms Woon Ming Ming, Chief Executive Officer of ParkCity Medical Centre. She said the programme was intended to provide the community with access to health information and opportunities to take part in preventive health activities.
ParkCity Medical Centre specialists delivered talks on children’s eye health, memory and dementia, joint health and sudden cardiac death. The sessions covered topics including healthy screen habits, early signs of memory loss and dementia, joint pain management, and the importance of early cardiac prevention and detection.
An interactive forum titled “Raising Kids in the Digital Era” featured Dr Rajini Sarvananthan, Consultant Developmental and General Paediatrician; Dr Christy Tong Hoe Chin, an early childhood education specialist, academic and researcher; and Dr Ilyah Abd Aziz, a gifted education researcher and parent of a twice-exceptional child undergoing accelerated learning.
The panel discussed children’s use of digital devices, screen time, technology and child development. According to Malaysian studies cited during the discussion, 95.9% of preschool children surveyed in Kota Setar, Kedah, had used digital devices. Another study found that 91.4% of children under five in Petaling District, Selangor, had excessive screen time, with half spending approximately three hours or more per day on screens.
Dr Rajini said parents should consider how technology is used and its effect on children, rather than focusing only on the amount of time spent on screens.
“As technology becomes an increasingly important part of children’s lives, parents should look beyond simply limiting screen time and focus on how technology is used and its impact on a child’s development and well-being. Open communication, healthy boundaries and active parental involvement can help children develop balanced digital habits,” said Dr Rajini.
In addition to the talks and screenings, attendees visited booths and took part in activities related to stress and emotional well-being, wellness, creativity, lifestyle and family health
The event concluded with remarks by YB Tuan Yew Jia Haur, ADUN Teratai, representing YB Lim Lip Eng, MP for Kepong. He said community events could help increase public awareness of preventive healthcare and provide residents with access to health information and professionals.
The programme was supported by Mr Ng Shei Kwee, Chairman of the Batu District Chinese Primary Schools Development Committee; Mr Lim Kim Kow, President of Persatuan Hokkien Kepong; and Dato Ong Teck Eng, President of the Pergabungan Pertubuhan Sosial Jinjang dan Kepong Kuala Lumpur.
