#1 Practice gratitude
Simply being grateful can give your mood a big boost, along with other benefits.
For instance, a two-part study found that practicing gratitude can have a significant impact on feelings of hope and happiness.
To start, you could try acknowledging one thing you’re grateful for each day, maybe while brushing your teeth or waiting for the alarm to go off.
As you go about your day, look out for pleasant things in your life. These things can be significant, such as receiving a promotion you deserved or knowing that someone loves you.
They can also be small things, like a co-worker offering you a cup of coffee or a neighbor waving to you. It could even be the sun’s warmth on your skin. After some practice, you may become more aware of all the positive things around you.
#2 Give a compliment
A number of scientific studies have proven that performing acts of kindness can help promote your overall well-being.
Giving a sincere compliment is a simple way to make a person’s day much more cheerful while helping yourself feel better. Look the person in the eye and speak with a smile so you know they understand what you’re trying to say.
You may be struck by the positive mood you’ll get from it. In case you intend to inform a person about a nice thing about them, look at him or her in the eye and speak with a smile so you two will understand what you mean.
#3 Acknowledge the unhappy moments
A positive attitude in general is generally a good thing, but bad things happen to everyone. It’s just part of life.
If you get some bad news, make a mistake, or just feel like you re in a funk, don t try to pretend you re happy. Acknowledge the feeling of unhappiness, letting yourself experience it for a moment.
Then shift your focus toward what made you feel this way and what it might stem from.
It’s important to give yourself permission to feel emotions both positive and negative. Once you have a better understanding of the cause of the feeling, try to reframe your thinking by finding a positive perspective, turning the situation into a learning opportunity or focusing on possible solutions.
Remember that a negative event or feeling doesn’t have to define your overall outlook. Building resilience and perseverance by dealing with challenges head-on will help you to overcome any obstacle that comes your way.
