Despite living through challenging times such as the Spanish flu, World War II, and personal losses, Miwa’s advice for longevity is simple yet profound: don’t dwell on the negative. Her life story is a testament to the power of perseverance and endurance in the face of adversity.

Born in 1914 in Guadalupe, California, Yoshiko Miwa faced early hardships with the loss of her mother and infant brother. Raised by her father and later sent to live at a children’s home, she overcame obstacles and pursued education, graduating from Santa Maria High School and the University of California, Berkeley. Her journey continued with marriage, internment during World War II, and eventually establishing a successful plant nursery business with her husband.

Miwa’s life is not only a tale of overcoming challenges but also one of embracing joy and staying active. She emphasises the importance of keeping both mind and body engaged, a philosophy reflected in her diverse range of hobbies. From walking 4 miles each morning to participating in cultural activities like ikebana and sumi-e, she finds fulfilment in staying busy and curious about the world around her.

One of the most striking aspects of Miwa’s story is her love for writing. After taking a writing course, she penned an autobiography that captures her adventures and memories from around the globe. Through her words, readers can glimpse into her past, filled with travels, family moments, and a deep appreciation for life’s simple pleasures.

Despite the challenges she has faced, Yoshiko Miwa remains rooted in her faith and gratitude towards those who have supported her along the way.
